CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Bruce Altznauer called to order the regular meeting of the Rutledge City Council on the above date. Council members Brenda Thompson, Adam Beckstine and Tony Sells were present as were members of the public. Council member Brandie Owens was absent.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mayor Altznauer called for and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
SWEARING IN - JUDGE CHARLES MERRITT
Judge Charles Merritt was present to swear in Mayor Bruce Altznauer and council member Adam Beckstine.
Judge Merritt asked Mayor Altznauer to raise his right hand and administered the oath:
“Do you solemnly swear that you will faithfully perform the duties of Mayor of the City of Rutledge and support and defend the charter thereof as well as the constitution and laws of the State of Georgia and the United States of America?” Mayor Altznauer said “ I do.”
Judge Merritt instructed the Mayor to sign and date the oath.
Judge Merritt asked Adam Beckstine to raise his right hand and administered the oath:
“Do you solemnly swear that you will faithfully perform the duties of Council member Post 1 of the City of Rutledge and support and defend the charter thereof as well as the constitution and laws of the State of Georgia and the United States of America?” Council member Beckstine said
“I do.” Judge Merritt instructed Council member Beckstine to sign and date the oath.
Judge Merritt congratulated both officials on their re-election. Mayor Altznauer thanked Judge Merritt for coming to the meeting.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Brenda Thompson made motion to approve the minutes of the December 21, 2021, meeting as submitted. Adam Beckstine seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
UPDATE-PARKING LOT
Mayor Altznauer advised the council that two weeks ago Carter & Sloope held a pre-construction conference here at City Hall with contractor Cole Tucker owner of Structural Resources, Inc. He stated that he has 180 days to complete the work but thinks he can get it done in 90 days. Mayor Altznauer handed out a schedule of dates for each phase of the project. He advised the construction would begin between January 17th and February 1st. He said he has talked with the merchants and they are happy about the project. Tony Sells asked if they are going to remove the old warehouse. Mayor Altznauer said yes and as far as everything else we are ready for them. He said we will barricade the two entrances and move it up and down as needed. We are ready to go. The only thing that is not in the initial plan is I have asked Georgia Power about adding two electric car charging stations. These will be paid for by the federal government. I did not commit the city to anything. There should be no other change orders.
We started with 25 parking spaces and now it is up to 32. Dr. Fletcher’s office should be finished this week. This will be great for the city. All the stuff in the warehouse was taken over to the sewer pond. There is 35 feet in the parking lot that can be used for outdoor dining. Adam Beckstine asked about the Taco Shop. Mayor Altznauer informed him that it was not going to come here because of the food to alcohol ratio.
Adam Beckstine made motion to adjourn at 6:25 pm. Brenda Thompson seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
