CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Bruce Altznauer called to order the regular meeting of the Rutledge City Council on the above date. Council members Brenda Thompson, Tony Sells, Tim Smith and Brandie Owens were present as were members of the public.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Altznauer called for and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Brenda Thompson made motion that the minutes of the September 17th meeting be approved as submitted. Tim Smith seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.

BUSINESS LICENSE APPROVAL – JEFFREY FRIDDELL

Mayor Altznauer said the City received a business license application from Jeffrey Friddell for East Atlanta Motor Cars located at 145 Newborn Road. He said Mr. Friddell is an auto broker and there will not be any cars for sale. It is only a professional office. Debbie Kilgore advised the council that there was nothing in the zoning book that permitted anything that had to do with car sales but since it was just an office, she needed to talk to the county Planning & Zoning office. Tony Sells made motion to approve the business license application from Jeffrey Friddell with the condition it is an approved use by Planning & Zoning. Tim Smith seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.

GARDEN CLUB – WATERING ISSUE

Sue Ellen Verner with the Rutledge Garden Club addressed the Council saying that they love Rutledge. She said one stumbling block we have is watering the flower boxes in town. Some members just are not going to water. We would like to request that the City take over the watering. She said it only takes about 30 minutes. Mayor Altznauer stated that the City only has one full time employee and that would be asking a lot. Ed Hogan was present and stated maybe we can pay someone to do it out of the Parks and Recreation. Brenda Thompson said how have you been watering. Ed Hogan said one person does it a week at a time. He said Parks and Recreation will absorb these costs. We will hire someone and pay them $100.00 per year.

RUTLEDGE EVENTS – MOLLY LESNIKOWSKI

Molly Lesnikowski addressed the council and said that the pumpkin display they had planned did not work out. She said we are loaning the hayride trailer to Hard Labor Creek for the hayride which will be October 26th the same date as the Spooky Fall Fest. The yard sale will be November 9th and it is just an old fashion yard sale. Anyone interested can sign up at the Caboose. We will advertise it in the paper twice. Ellen Verner said that they were going to do a mural on the liquor store building and it will be 3-D which will say “See Rutledge” and should be completed in time for the Christmas festival on December 7th. Brenda Thompson said the Baptist Church will have a festival Halloween night. Molly advised that the hayride for Spooky Fall Fest will start at 5:30 at Hard Labor Creek and all the other festivities will start at the park downtown Rutledge at 6:00. She also said they are planning another community Thanksgiving dinner and thinks it will be the afternoon of November 16th.

Brenda Thompson made motion to adjourn at 7:30 pm. Tim Smith seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
