CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Bruce Altznauer called to order the regular meeting of the Rutledge City Council on the above date. Council members Tim Smith, Brandie Owens and Brenda Thompson were present as were members of the public. Council member Tony Sells was absent.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mayor Altznauer called for and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Tim Smith made motion to approve the minutes of the April16, 2019 council meeting as submitted. Brenda Thompson seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
BUSINESS LICENSE APPROVAL – TYLER GRINDLE
Mayor Altznauer advised the council that a business license application had been submitted by Tyler Grindle for TG’s Detailing, which will be cleaning outside and inside of vehicles at 448 West Main Street. The use is allowed but the mobile equipment must be kept behind the house. Brenda Thompson made motion to approve the application for TG”s Detailing. Tim Smith seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
AWARD OF PAVING BID – WEST MAIN / HOLLIS STREET
Mayor Altznauer informed the council that the City received four bids for the paving project. He said from highest to lowest was Garrett Paving, Jasco, Pittman Construction and East Coast Grading. He said there is a good bit of difference between the highest and the lowest with the biggest difference being in traffic control. East Coast is a Rutledge company. They seem to be well qualified. They all vary but the meat of it is the leveling and topping and they are all similar. Brandie Owen stated that East Coast did good work. Brenda Thompson made motion to award the bid to East Coast Grading for $120,651.05. Tim Smith seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried
CENSUS – 2020 INFORMATION
Mayor Altznauer stated that he met with the 2020 Census people. He said they gave a rundown of what they need out of the community and why it is important for the community to be involved. Each person that is counted is $1,339.00 and the funds are used to help with our legislative district. In the 2010 Census we added one congressional seat.
TRAFFIC CALMING STUDY
Mayor Altznauer advised that he had met with Marc Acamporo the traffic engineer. We rode around and looked at several streets and looked at our existing speed humps. He will do a study and put out counters. We should see the counters in the next couple of weeks. He also took the county study. He did say that we do not have adequate signage. Brenda Thompson stated that a citizen came to her and wanted the speed humps painted yellow. Mayor Altznauer said that yellow is not proper. The white will need to be repainted. We should be getting a report within about three weeks. Brandie Owens stated she had requests for West Main Street near A Street.
HYDRANT FLUSHING / FLOW TESTING
Mayor Altznauer advised the public and the council that the city would be flushing hydrants June 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Water could be cloudy or muddy and people should take care when washing clothes.
EVENTS UPDATE
Molly Lesnikowski was present and advised the council that Jennifer Buzbee was doing a great job on the fair. She said that Mr. Blue will be the grand marshal. The parade lineup is at 10:30 and starts at 11:00. She stated I just wanted to let you know that the Community Depot is having a positive impact on Rutledge. The Community Depot is having a reception to honor veterans. It will start around 9:30 on Memorial Day and everyone is invited. June 1st is activity day at Veteran’s Park there will be food and games for kids and adults. The concert series starts after Memorial Day. Spooky Fall Fest is October 26th. Brenda Thompson stated that the Baptist Church Vacation Bible School kick off is July 13th and will be Saturday thru Thursday.
BUDGET INFORMATION
Public hearings will be held on the budget June 11th and 18th.
Brenda Thompson made motion to adjourn at 8:40 pm. Tim Smith seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
