COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REVIEW / DISCUSSION AND CITIZEN INPUT

Bobby Sills with Nelsnick Enterprises was present and went over the Comprehensive Plan Update. Mr. Sills gave an overview of the draft of the vision statement, character area definitions and character area boundaries. He said the purpose of the meeting was to find out how they are doing so far on defining our vision and identifying our issues. Mr. Sills said that the comp plan is a document to help in zoning decisions and is a work plan. It is a 20 year plan and is updated every 10 years. It is a county / city plan. It includes Bostwick, Buckhead and Rutledge. It does not include Madison. It helps to protect private property rights and helps economic development with long term and short term considerations. Some of the issues you discussed were the revitalization of downtown, get more customers, the need of close groceries and sidewalk repair and extensions. Character areas discussed were the historic town center, rural conservation, low impact residential, traditional neighborhoods and gateway corridors. Maps were laid out and citizens and council marked the character areas. Comprehensive planning benefits the community through smarter decisions that are based on both short term and long term considerations.
