CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Spencer Knight called to order the regular meeting of the Rutledge City Council on the above date. Council members Brenda Thompson, Tony Sells, Tim Smith and Bruce Altznauer were present as were members of the public.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE
Mayor Knight called for and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Brenda Thompson made motion to approve the minutes of the February 21, 2017 minutes as submitted. Tony Sells seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
TEXT AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE 18 SIGNS – ZONING ORDINANCE
Mayor Knight advised the council that the Rutledge Zoning ordinance does not allow electronic signs. He stated that the text amendment would be in line with the Morgan County ordinance and would allow gas stations to have one with digital numbers. The amendment allows one digital sign per gasoline retailer. Bruce Altznauer asked if this would affect the Caboose and Yesterday’s café. Mayor Knight said no, it will only affect gas stations.
CITIZEN INPUT
Mayor Knight called for citizen input for or against the text amendment. There was none. Bruce Altznauer made motion to approve the text amendment to article 18 allowing one digital sign per gasoline retailer. Brenda Thompson seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION FOR THE DISASTER MITIGATION ACT OF 2000 AUTHORIZING THE ADOPTION OF MORGAN COUNTY PLAN
Mayor Knight informed the council that this was a plan about what to do if we had some sort of disaster and how federal and state monies would be divided up. Brenda Thompson said that this helps to prepare you before a disaster happens. She stated that if there should be some sort of disease outbreak there are different designated places for quarantine. She said the Baptist Church is one of those places. This is just to help you be prepared. Brenda Thompson made motion to approve the resolution pursuant to the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 authorizing adoption of the Morgan County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Tim Smith seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
OLD / UNFINISHED
Bruce Altznauer asked what is the status of the Bessemer property. Mayor Knight stated that he has 60 more days to complete it.
Tony Sells said he would like to thank everyone involved in the Arbor Day event that it was a huge success.
Bruce Altznauer asked about signs for the speed humps. Ouida Autry advised them that the signs have been ordered.
Brenda Pace stated that the trees at the house on the corner of Hawkins were a menace. Mayor Knight advised the city clerk to write up a work order to trim the trees at corner of Hawkins.
Tony Sells made motion to adjourn at 7:25 pm. Brenda Thompson seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
